Working Thesis:

Big Data has been making it’s way into healthcare more and more as our world has become technology based, it is transforming healthcare by reducing costs, increasing efficiency, and saving lives. The varieties of technology we interact with every day collect our data, analyze it, and use it as a way to be proactive by eliminating possible complications.

Possible Sources:

Choong Ho Lee, Hyung-Jin Yoon. Medical big data: promise and challenges. Kidney Research and Clinical Practice. Journal Article. March 31, 2017

I plan to use this article to give a general overview of how big data is used in healthcare. There are many negatives pointed out in this article that I plan to address and possibly give reasons as to why the positives outweigh the negatives.

Steve Lohr. The Age of Big Data. The New York Times. Newspaper article. February 11, 2012.

Dimitier V. Dimitrov. Medical Internet of Things and Big Data in Healthcare. Korean Society of Medical Informatics. Journal Article.

With this article I plan to prove my point as to why big data is so important to us today. Also the importance of keeping up to date on new technology advances in order to keep our data current and useful.

I plan to use this article the most in my paper. It gives many positive aspects of big data in healthcare and I plan to point them out. Also in this article there are many examples of how the medical field uses big data that most people don’t put into consideration. I also plan to address ways to be proactive through big data in order to avoid certain diseases.

My plan:

In order to construct a well written paper I plan to find at least one more source to integrate into my writing. Also I plan to use my Little Seagull book to help me with my structure and TSIS for a possible naysayer.

  1. Hi Kayleigh. Looking at your thesis, I love it. One thing I do want to add, is maybe explain those complications as privacy, just to open the readers eyes for what they’re about to read. Your first source is also a source I will be using, so I believe that is pretty reliable. Your second source though, is it just a source based on big data? If so I totally think that is fine as long as you use it in the beginning to open and explain what big data is before you get into the health care talk. Your third article also looks very reliable. It has been 5 years since it was published so be careful what you use and what you find in there. Some other suggestions I have for you would be to maybe find another source because you really want to have extra information just in case as this is a 6-7 page essay! Good luck Kayls! I can’t wait to read yours! 🙂 <3

  2. Hi, Kaleigh,

You have a clear field to examine. I’d like to talk more about the three points you outline. You will want to focus on one (maybe two) in order to write in-depth about it. Trying to discuss all three will go beyond the scope of this essay unless you only superficially discuss each (which pushes you back to five-paragraph structure). Your sources indicate that you will have a good overview of the topic. Remember that the naysayer must also be identified and addressed. How might this sharing of data compromise patients? Let’s talk more about this on Tuesday.

Also, I don’t see a classmate response. Please check the comments section on your dashboard to show your peer’s response.
