Sample 1: Showcase- Big Data

Part 1B: Learning Outcome 2

Going into my big data essay, I truly didn’t know much about big data. Big data is something I knew existed, but I didn’t put much thought into it. I relied very heavily on the sources given to me in class and the ones I found online through the library to guide my writing and to explain what big data really is.  The sources I found each helped my essay come together in different ways. The first source I found that helped me was one by writer for The New York Times Steve Lohr, I paraphrased his writing to give a general overview of what big data is and how it is becoming more apparent every day. In my writing I also used a direct quote that Lohr had stated saying “decisions will increasingly be based on data and analysis rather than on experience and intuition” (4). When it got time to focus more on the medial side of things I used a lot of what Doctor Dimiter Dimitrov had to say about big data in his writing. To start I summarizes his findings on the Collaborative Cancer Cloud and how it generates big data, then I went on to use a direct quote where the Doctor talked about the tool we use to generate big data. Throughout my entire essay, I connected my thought to the writers and I also used text-to-text connections to make it a more credible paper.
