Sample 1: Big Data

Part 1C: Learning Outcome 5&6

In my big data essay there were some MLA guidelines and local revisions that needed to be addressed. After paraphrasing Steve Lohr’s words, about the general overview of what big data is, I wasn’t sure whether or not to put his name and a page number in parentheses. By using my little seagull book and the help of my peer reviewers I learned that I did not need to cite him this way because I had referred to him before paraphrasing what he said. Another problem I struggled with was fragments in my writing. In my rough draft I tended to continue my thought onto multiple ongoing sentences that created fragments. One problem I had in particular was a sentence I started with the word “from” without giving proper information about what I was referring to. I re-read my paper multiple times looking for small local revisions such as this one.
