My framing goal was to be able to offer evidence through personal opinions/experience after using a quote in my essay. Starting by giving a claim, following with a quote and the authors stance, then furthering the topic with personal feeling and experience. This is something I felt would help me interact more deeply with the text and be able to get my readers to engage more with my essay. Through doing this I felt my paper had a better overall structure. Another thing I worked to fix was my comma use in sentences. In my other papers I had a tendency to use commas too much when they weren’t necessary. Reading my paper out loud helped me find any unnecessary commas and places where they were needed.
“On the other hand, when we do finally get that face-to-face contact we crave so much, we take it for granted. Many people will sit down at a restaurant for a meal and not say more than a few words to each other, just intently attuned to the virtual world going on in their hand. Phones distract us from building connections, sharing moments and stories with the people we cherish. You can sit in almost any room with a number of people and still feel like the loneliest person on this world, due to the lack of face-to-face communication.“In 1987, according to to one estimate, we spent on average six hours per day in face-to-face social interaction, and four via electronic media. In 2007 the proportion had reversed, with almost eight hours a day spent socializing via electronic media, and only two and a half hours in face-to-face social interaction”(Greenfield 100). While social media has been introduced to try to reduce loneliness, it may have had reversed effects. In order to feel true connection, face-to-face contact is needed. Social media is taking away from our time shared face-to-face and has caused us to be more interested in the online world than what is happening around us. Today many older generations you will hear say our current generation is too focused on their phones, unable to appreciate the things going on outside of this cyberspace.”
