The skills I learned in English helped me to succeed in other classes as well. One skill in particular I developed and used in all of my classes to help me retain information better was critical reading skills such as highlighting, annotating, and forming questions from the things I read. I had struggled with not retaining the things I read and through this class I was able to test strategies of critical reading to discover what worked best for me. For my psychology class we are required to read the chapters prior to discussing them in class, at the start of the semester I would read them and not retain the information I was reading, so when we discussed it in class it was almost like new information to me. When I applied critical reading skills such as annotating with sticky notes, I was able to remember the things I had read and was more prepared for class discussion.
